Grandma's been sewing!

I thought that I would post a few pictures of bits and pieces that arrived from Granma the other day (AKA: My mother and Amelia's Grandma - or JO)

She made me a bag out of Pet Mesh. Yes you read correctly! Did you know that it comes in funky olours, I could just imagine what Tim would say if I bought it to put on the screen doors! The patterns are called screen play and there is a pattern available for a zippered version here.
( You would never guess that I have a thing with zips at the moment). And Punch by Judy has a range of colours - will see if I can find the shop online that Mum got hers from cause she had them in all colours of the rainbow.
And Amelia recieved an apron - although very big I love the material. Thanks Grandma.
One Little Zipper in a Dress!Well I did it! I managed to put a zipper in a dress and I think that it passes and will be wearable - I am so excited.

Now only the buttonholes to do! My machine needs to go to the Dr's and is not playing the game with me at the moment! (NOTE TO SELF - take it to sewing machine Doctor!)

(Sorry about the picture being so dark - it is raining here today)

Zippers!

Yeah I did it! Ia m so excited - I have put in my first zip! I know, sad isn't it. I have been sewing for so many years - yet have never mastered the zip.

Don't look too closely. But it will do the job and it opens and closes so that is a bonus in itself.

Some notes to self to improve on.1. Take your time Kylie. I actually sewed the second piece on backwards.
2. Top Stitch it BEFORE you get to excited and sew it all up :)

Work in Progress Wednesday - Week Two

Ok - so not much to report this week - I think that I have done a whole 1cm more of the Hug-me-Tight, so much for a work in progress!

I have been working on some other things. Have just completed half of an order. The most gorgeous beanie in Lamb's wool and Angora (oh it is the softest and thickest beanie ever!)

I also had a request from Tim to knit him a beanie. He wanted one 'like Connor's' so off I went to find some wool suitable for a man and got knitting. (I have no idea what was wrong with all of the pick in my stash) I knitted it in a day, with a double moss stitch and gave it to him to try on. And do you know what he said - "Oh it is very fancy - I only want it to walk to dog!" HummI also tried my hand at crochet. It is the first game of the State of Origin and I wanted Amelia to have something Maroon to wear. I think that I did ok with it and it will possibly only stay on for 5 minutes! GO QUEENSLAND, GO QUEENSLAND, GO QUEENSLAND GO!

Putting in a Zipper!

Ok - so this is my challenge to myself this week! The dreaded Z!@#$%! See it is like a swear word in my house. My mother cannot for the life of her do them and I thought that while I was at home that I would be able to get granma to show me (but she forgets)

So that is it. I am detemined to learn how to do it and have done a blog and tutorial serch on the how to's.

ehow - how to put in a zipper

Thimble - Front zippered pouch tutorial

The Sewing Room - putting in a zipper

U-handbag

Ok - off to find a piece of material and a zipper to practice on. Might see if I can make a little pouch/purse or something handy!

Work in Progress!

Sorry work in progress post - you have been a little neglected over the past few weeks (due to being on holidays and easter)

But it is back!

I have also changed it to Wednesdays - It just sounds better and seems to be a day that I am home now to craft and do some things.

This is my current work in progress. It is a Hug-Me-Tight from a vintage pattern book. It has the most georgous lace pattern through it and is one of those projects that I can only do of a night time when Amelia has gone down for the night! And will be a gift for a friend who has just had a little girl (Ness - close your eyes and I hope that you like purple)
A warm head for a little girl!

Well I knitted Amelia another beanie yesterday - how cute does it look on her.

I love the flower (expecially the colour) It is crocheted - the extent of my crocheting abilities.

The pattern is my own - I just casted on and went from there! It is done on slightly bigger needles than what was recommended so it gives a more open effect.
