Little Sugar Houses

With sticky hands and sticky fingers, a lick here and a lick there (you can do that when you will be the only person that will be eating your little house)
We stuck together tiny little houses other wise known as 'Sugar Houses'

All were very pleased with their efforts and we ended the day on a sugar high.

Little Sugar Houses
1 x packet of Vovo's, Waffers and Hundreds and Thousands
1 x batch of Royal Icing (the glue for your little house)
A selection of lollies to decorate.

Build as you would would a house. From the ground up with four walls and a roof (slice a waffer in half to form a triangle to give your roof a frame)

Decorate and enjoy.

Disclaimer:  It was so very hot on the day that we made these that the icing just would not play the game and set for us.  They had a trip into the freezer to set before decorating.

Have you made a gingerbread house before?
Did it stay up?
Any tips of tricks?

My Creative Space | A finished shawlette

A finished shawlette marks the first completed Christmas gift.  I have wanted to knit this pattern for a while.  I read reports that it was an easy to follow pattern.  I was doing well until I decided to knit 3 complete repeats instead of 2 and a half before the final lace chart.

It feels great to have something completed, wrapped and ready to gift and I think that I will make myself one next year.

I always have grand plans of making lots of my gifts.  But in reality that never happens as I am neck deep in packing boxes.

I'm going to keep a running tally on Christmas Gifts this year.  I'm also interested in what extra things I will have to purchase along the way.  I'm certain that I have enough fabric and yarn in this house to make most of my gifts.

Cost:
Pattern: 198 yds of heaven = free
Yarn: 85grams of Araucania Solid Worsted / 10 ply, $16 (been in stash over a year) = $0
Total: + $16

Don't forget to pop over here.  There is still lots of neon rope fun to be seen.

A quick dash home...

Hello 2011...  Hello Brisbane!

How did you bring in a new decade? We missed the fightworks and instead drove by the light of the moon with the stars as our fireworks.

With heavy hearts we packed up the car and headed back late yesterday afternoon.  The Bruce Highway is almost cut and the Fitzroy River is set to reach 9m in the next few days and the highway closed for about 10 days from when the river peaks.

I will be back later to do a round up post of 2010 and what I have in store for 2011.  It may even include a new blog - I still need a bit more of a holiday and as the saying goes " A change is as good as a Holiday" Then there is no better excuse.

I will leave you with a few pictures of what we came through yesterday.

A change of plans...

In fear of being flooded out and floating out to sea, Christmas venue was changed and we went straight to my parents.  The camper trailer may stay where it is if the weather channel are correct with there predictions of more rain.

There were two little people here that were very impressed with Santa's ability to find where they were for Christmas Day.

Time spent eating and keeping dry with Grandparents

and of course - seeing which of Grandpa's girls could get more of his chest.

We hope that this finds you all well and dry and enjoying a wonderful Christmas with your family and friends.

It's a wrap...

We are almost ready to head out the door.  The car is almost packed and the kids have been having fun making some wrapping paper.
I think it looks great. And a great activity to do with the kids when the rain is pouring outside.
And we finished them off with a handprint tag.

Santa Photo...

The kids had there Santa photo the other day.

Both the photographer and Santa tried to get Baden to put his arms down - but that was not going to happen, and personally this mother was just happy that he would sit there and smile.  He has come a long way in a year. We have no Santa photo to document the distress that this little man would have been in if I had plonked him on Santa's knee. To give you an example of his dislike to him last year, a book sat unopened for weeks because of who gave it to him.

This year he has asked for a Buzz and a Ball and much to his disgust he keeps seeing him and he keeps leaving without handing over the goods.

The Wonder Years...

Another knit off of the needles in the hight of the humidity.

My little model did such a great job.  Infact he did not want to take this one off.  This one is going to his cousin - but I can see another being made for him for the winter.

Pattern:  Wonder Years Toddler Cardigan
Needles: 4.5mm and 5mm
Yarn: Lion Brand Wool-Ease 10ply

This Moment...

[this moment] A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment.  A moment I want to pause, savour and remember.

My Creative Space...

Is a sugar over load today...

Yumm - the smell of the gingerbread was almost too much for me and I was tempted to have a little taste.

Would anyone notice that the side of the house was missing?

Come inside ths little house - The sugar, the lollies, the Ginger, and lets not forget Santa.
This one is all wrapped up and is heading with me to Kinder drop off so I dont have to be tempted again today.  It is our contribution to the pic-a-prize raffle at Amelia and Baden's Kinder Christmas party.  If you would like your chance to win it and live in Brisbane let me know - tickets are $1.
Disclaimer:  I did not make the biscuit part - thanks must go to IKEA.

We will be making another next week - this one with the kids help. For more creative spaces be sure to check in with Kootoyoo.

At My House...

we have been out in search of lollies.  I have been inspired by Corrie's gingerbread house and I need one too.  Thinking that if it turns out it will be my contribution to the Kindergarten Raffle, so we are heading down to IKEA tomorrow to grab a Gingerbread House Kit (one less thing to mess up)

...at my house , I have been playing yarn chicken - I still have the front button bands to do on the forth Crazy Aunt knit and I only have 9grams (Crazy Aunt indeed)

...at my house, the kids have sent off their Kids Christmas Swap packages...

...at my house, we have placed little lights out the front.  Amelia was starting to get a little concerned that Santa will not be able to find us at Christmas time when we are camping, these will light up the way for Santa (Note to Self:  dont forget to pack them in the camper trailer or I will be up for another $10)

...at my house, I have booked myself into a photography course.  Just a one day one to learn what all of the buttons are for on my new camera. Although, this little man is over being a model for Mumma.

...at my house ...dont try this at your house...
...I thought that I would be clever and make some little Christmas Tree Crayons - humm - When the packet says 'ICE CUBE TREES'   That may have been warning enough - but NO!

For more of what is happening at other houses around the web - check out Lou's.

Kids Christmas Swap 2010

Do you have children who sit by the mail box waiting for something to arrive?
Do your children get upset when you recieve something in the mail and they don't?
Do your children enjoy crafting and creating?

Then this is for them.
So this is the plan.

Imagine the joy and excitement on your little one/s face/s when a package arrives in the mail just for them.

What you will send: An Envelope (no bigger than A4 size) filled with goodies for another little child, that has a Christmas Theme.

Ideas:  Paper, Paper/Foam Shapes, Ribbon, Sticky Tape, Material, Card stock, a ready made craft kit, beads, yarn, stickers, recipe for something Christmassy....   The list could go on and on.

Create something small to add to the parcel.  It is your choice whether this is created by your child or by yourself.

The idea is to have fun it putting this together and creating with your child.  It is not meant to cost the world - but will mean the world to both your child/ren when they are making it or when it is recieved at the other end.

Sign up's CLOSED

Ages:  12 months to 12years (although I am open to making allowances) and where possible your child will swap with someone of a similar age.

Other Information:  I will email you with your partner/s on Monday 15th, Included will be the address/adresses that you will require (your address will not be shared with anyone else)
Parcels to be posted on or around November 27th so they arrive at the beginning of December.

For those with more than one child. Are you happy to send to individual children - I know that my two would love to recieve their own parcel in the mail.

Day #30 - Red Olearia

Another Christmas gift completed (I even have the book to go with this one)

I love this pattern.  It is the Olearia by the ever talented tiKKi. It really is one of my go to patterns at the moment.  Amelia is still yet to have one grace her shoulders so I may have to do something about that.

I asked my SIL which version she prefered and the reponse was "the plain one"  but could not help myself and had to add a little detail at the base.

I love it.  And looking forward to seeing in on Miss Vivi when it fits her.

Pattern: Olearia by Georgie
Neddles: 3.25 and 4mm Circulars
Yarn: Bendigo Woollen Mills, 8ply Luxury in Sunrise
Time Frame: October 16th - 28th 2010

And while I am on the subject of showing cute knits on Nieces - this arived in my inbox this week. Miss Vivi in her Aunty knitted beanie.
How cute is she!
