A New Hat

for a girl to head off to Kindergarten

Not overly impressed with the pattern's instructions - the way they put it together is a little confusing.

The end result however is cute and Amelia was happy with it.  So I guess that is all that matters.  Oh it gives great coverage to her face from the sun - so another plus.

Two...

in the blink of an eye.  How on earth did that happen.

This little man turned two today.

It's hard to believe that you have been with us for that long.  But then to think of it, it is now hard to think of a time that you were not with us.

You are a true boy.  You are happiest when you are outside and adore your sister.  You are a man of few words - but they are coming and you make yourself known all the same.  You can stop a tantrum as quickly as it started and you are our silent achiever- if I can't hear you, you must be found.

Happy Birthday little man.  Hope that you had a great day and we look forward to sharing your third year with you.

Twinkle Little Star Refashion Frock GROSGRAIN GIVEAWAY!!!!

What a devine dress. Something that started out as something so drab and grey and boring could end up looking so devine and cute. This is the brain child of the ever so talented Grosgrain.

I can see myself wearing this to the next mess function, what do you think? So go and check it out - but dont enter cause I would really like to win.

January Challenge - Something for ME!

A Tunic.

With all of the hot weather and daily trips to the pool, I descided that I required a Tunic.  Armed with a copy of 4/2009 Burda Style Magazine from a recent trip to the library (the library is a common place to also visit at the moment as it has airconditoning)

I love it - It is great to pop on over my togs and head to the pool and easy to slip on after.  I enjoyed sewing for myself - funny enough the last thing that I sewed for myself was a dress for winter.  I am hoping that I will sew a little more for myself this year.

There is a Flickr group set up if you would like to see what everyone else has made this month.

Thanks Carolyn for this inspiring Meme to get me sewing for myself (actually sewing again - this is the first time I have sewn in our new house) Feburary brings a new challenge - Sewing with Knits.

Dreaming of...

being here.

Where it is cool.  I suddenly thought that I did not share our snow trip with you (back in August)

Nice to look back on today though and dream - it is a hot, humid day here today.

FROG... is a 4 letter word!

...and so is another...

Man, what was I thinking. All the way up to splitting it for the arms and I am sitting there going - NO...NO...NO...

And to think that I counted and recounted and counted again (even stopping during knitting at one point to count again because I thought that it was looking small and double checked gauge)  But NO...  Eveytime I missed it. Missed that I had infact cast on 20 less stitches then required.

That will teach me not to cast on while enjoying a Gin and Tonic with my darling husband.

Or...maybe it is an oman that infact the baby that this is intended for is indeed a girl and I should have cast on something pink. (sex unknown until birth all will be revealed on Monday!)

Off to Frog and get the sewing machine out - it is too hot for this knitting thing today anyway.

Whirligig

The first finished knit for the year.

This will be in the mail and on its way to Canberra to baby Matilda very soon.  Our dear friends had a little girl just before Christmas.  A very much loved and wanted surprise for this special family.  So I thought that she needed an extra special little knit.

It looks so cute on Amelia large beanie kid and I can't wait to get a picture sent to me on Matilda in it.  You will definitly be seeing this knit again. I have plans to upsize it for Amelia (the pattern unforunatly only goes to a size 24 months) and I am thinking I could pull one on myself on a cool night.

Rain..Rain...

We are getting alot of this at the moment

It is good for the plants

The boy is outside, learning the properties of water and how a leaf floats

and you could be mistaken for thinking that he has never seen the stuff that falls from the sky before!

I hope that you are all keeping dry if it is wet where you are - and pray that you get some of it as well.

One per Month Challenge

Surfing through blogland and catching up on a little web reading I came across a challenge over and Chaletgirl.

It is the One per Month Challenge, I thought - I can do this.  The rules are easy and clear and go like this:

◦choose a cookbook per month and try to cook one new recipe per week (or at least just one recipe per month if four gets too challenging)

◦choose a craft book per month and make at least one item from the book

So for January I am going to try a few recipes out of DECEPTIVELY DELICIOUS, now not that I have a problem with my kids eating - they are great eaters.  I just picked it up at the library and thought that it looked interesting.

Patterns that I will try is the Whirlgig out of Interweave Knits Weekend 2009 and Lazy Days Hat for Baden  from Make it Perfect.

I am also going to jion in with the Once a Month Challenge that My Favourite is hosting.  And also have huge plans on attempting to get one Christmassey thing completed per month - wish me luck.

Happy New Year..

A train ride, fireworks and an icecream made for a great family outing to celebrate the end of 2009.
