What a week - next week I think that I had better find the wooden table under the pile of mess.

Pasha

Another knit off of the needle and this one is on its way to warm the head of a friend.

Knitted in Berroco Ultra Alpaca and used the Pasha pattern, it is part of the monthly KAL over at Tangled Yarns

You can not really see the lovey lace pattern in the black.  Will knit this again in a different colour.  I think my head needs one too.

the electrical appliances have been getting a work out today

A pile of yarn to turn into beanies, the wonderful Steph is doing a market this weekend and offered to take along some of my beanies - so doing them to co-ordinate with her wonderful creations.

And slowly turning this room into a toy/play/sewing/knitting room (the little ones in the house now share a room - there own choice)

There are ALOT around the traps this week - fingers crossed I will find a little time to visit a few (I often pick a number and then do every ten - so 8, 18, 28...you get the picture. Does anyone get through all of them?)

I am enjoying a quick visit from my parents and have had the chance to do a little knitting. 

Have finished the dress for Amelia - all will be shared later - it is a cute pattern from a talented Canadian knitter and designer.

So, I have rewarded myself and cast on the Pasha.

and sat down to read the artical in Notebook about Retro Mummy.  What a lovely read and four great patterns. I think that I might even have to get the sewing machine out soon.

The two latest knits hot off of the needles and gifted over the weekend.

A Birthday Shawl

My Grandmother turned 80 last week and in true Kylie fashion I am running late with her gift.

I have not done too badly though - considering that I cast it on on the 4th and her birthday is the 6th of July.

Modeled by my in house model. 

I think my Dad is a little worried that the little miss is part of a slave labour scheme here.  Don't be worried though - she gets pleanty knitted for her and is actually bringing me her dress at the moment when she sees it lying around so I can finish it, and has also requested something with the left over yarn.

Pattern:  A few simple shawl patterns all pulled together.
Timeframe: July 3rd - 11th 2010
Yarn: Araucania Ranco Solid from American Yarns, Brisbane 1.5balls
Needles:  4.5mm Circulars (just kept changing the cable length as I went

My Creative Space

has a pile of Works in Progress in it this week.

I am itching to cast on something new - but am stopping myself. 

On the WIP pile is a beanie and little bubba blue vest (to be finished and gifted on Saturday)

Joining together a blanket so my Mum can take it back to Mackay with her (she did the knitting portion of it - humm - she must not know that I despise joining things together)

An almost finished shawl - just have to weave in the ends)

Blast off.

We went for a drive on the weekend (almost to where we go camping)  to see the Rockets take off at Queensland Rocketry Societies public launch on Sunday.

We had a lovely morning out and it was something different to do and got us all out of the sun and in the fresh air.

The group have thee public days  year.  A gold coin donation gets you a few hours of fun and if you really want to you can also purchase a rocket on the day all set up for your spot of the limelight.  Sundays event ws there biggest so far, pulling in approx 400 people.

It was great to see people of all ages taking part. 

This boy helped his Dad make his rocket out of a Giant Crayon.

And he did everything from taking it to be safety checked, he carried it out, set it up and even hit the button.

 It had some speed and I missed it taking off.  But this photo still shows how great it was. 

I must have hyped it up a little and I think that Amelia must have thought that she was going to see the real Rockets at the Kennedy Space Centre (we have also been to Parks and have been to a night sky viewing - so she knows a little about them)

Our conversation went something like this

Amelia:  Mum, why did you only take us to see little Rockets.

I explained that it is a society and ordinary people like us can become members.  That it was not the NASA space station and that in QLD we could only let them go 5000 feet into the sky as the commercial flight path is over head.

Amelia: But we have binoculars.  If we took those then they would be able to send them higher.

My creative space...

Today,crafting timehas been spent untangling 100grams of 4ply and taking it from a skein to a ball in preparation for knitting tonight. (my resident knot untangler was at work - might have to look into a ball winder and swift down the track)

I have been sitting up way to late watching the Tour de France, that means though that knitting is getting done.

Tour de France

or le Tour de Tiredness as it is known in this house. 

This year I am joining in the fun once again over at Ravelry with the hope of finishing a Shawl for my Grandmother - hmm - running late for gifting season (she turns 80 tomorrow)  This is going to be a hard slog for me up the mountain as I really am a quick project kind a girl and really like the satisfaction of quick knits. 

Here is where I am up too so far.

So in between (I am now taking 20 minutes to do 2 rows - I need something for in between)
WIP:  That 70's dress test knit
          Vivi's Hearts Beanie and Crochet Beanie (a girl can never have too many hats)
          Sew on Button for bonnet test knit
          A few more squares of my bright blanket
          There are a few things having a long sleep - I should really work on getting those back in the WIP  
                     pile.
And will see how I go there may even be a little Vneck Vest appear on the needles.

Dinner is even in the slow cooker so I can sit and watch the highlights on SBS at 6pm tonight - I fell asleep and did not see the crash at the end.  I also found out that I have bee doing it all wrong.  I have failed reaching the finish line in past years, you see I was trying to only knit during the times that the Tour is on TV.  Being that we get an hour at 6pm (bath and dinner times in this house) and then a couple of hours at 10pm, I would find myself curled up and asleep before the end of each stage.  But, apparently competitors don't pack away the needles when the boys in spandex have finished for the day - I might just get to Paris.

If you are not into cyclist or spandex - don't fear - there is something in it for all of us if you do find yourself channel surfing.  The scenery of this beautiful part of the world is fantastic (and often distracts from the knitting when Tim says - look at this, you missed that.

Amelia's Creative Space

While walking through Spotlight the other day Amelia picked up the Wrap and Roll Stick.

She then chose a ball of wool (not like I was short on supplies)

We sat out in the sun and wrapped and wrapped. She had fun and as you can see by the result she is rather pleased with her efforts.

She needed a little help to hold the stick (so she did not keep wacking herself in the head or poke out an eye) and I tied the knots.

The grand total of $5 and she will have enough yarn to get out a heap of them (thinking that they would make a great party favour in party bags at her party - always on the lookout for non-sweet treats)
