Getting Organised!

This year I am going to attempt to get myself organised. I know it is already the middle of Feb - but I have only just got home - and know that I will be heading off again soon.

The other thing that is prompting me to get organised is I know that we are being posted out of here at the end of the year. Yes another move. Yes, house number 7 in 7 years! Mad really isn't it.

For the last few months of last year I worked on the house with the help of Domestic Guru. THis women is my godsend. I am not a good house wife and would rather be sitting sewing, knitting or something else crafty instead of having a clean and shinny house. Let just say that I am getting there - the 50 item pick up days are amazing.

I am also going to join Belinda in her quest for a simple life and getting back to the basics.

I will attempt to post weekly - but maybe fortnightly is a more managable goal.

This is what you have to do: report weekly or fortnightly on the topics of
*Sowing seed or Planting
*Planning for The Future
*Working for the Future
*Building Community
*Learn a new Skill

If you would like to join in on the fun - head over to Belinda's Place and let her know. She would love to hear from you.

I will begin with my first post on Monday - this gives me a few days to get organised and work out what I need to do.
Still here - I promise!
We are back again. For how long you ask. Well at the moment your guess is as good as mine.
In the mean time I think that I promised a few photos of the food frenzy that happened around Christmas.
The girls over at Crafty Mammas went crazy over my crochet food. They had me working on my little hook like a mad women (I did enjoy it - a nice change from knitting)

It got to a stage that I think one of my Uncles thought that is what he would be served up when he came to visit us on our camping trip - LOL

The little man turned one! Cake and celebrations was had with both sets of Grandparents at either end of Australia.

And a few photos from our week of camping after Christmas...

The day of darkness!

You will all know what is going on in this great southern land of our's. The worst fire disaster in history. Currently the death toll is horrifying and the homes lost are well into 700.

I have had to turn off the television. There are so many sad stories of loss and families seperated forever that I thought that I would put my enegies to something else. Last night while chatting to some online friends we thought about making things for those that have lost everything. I thought that since it is winter really only just around the corner that I could put my knitting skills to action and knit a few beanies etc.

Then this morning the wonderful Pip at Meet Me at Mikes sent out an email (via facebook)

She is going to be a drop off point for Handmade Help. And how can you crafty people help.

Mike's will act as a drop-off point for any handmade items you may want distributed to victims of the Victorian bushfires. This includes toys, clothing, quilts and baby items. They will look after them and they will be past onto The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and Red Cross

Donations can be sent to 63 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, Victoria. Telephone 94163713 (to be sure we are open at the time you will be dropping off!) Or feel free to mail us something marked Handmade Help on the envelope and we'll pass it on.

Thankyou so much Pip for starting this. I am going to chat to my little local knitting group and see if they would like to make something as well. Everyone can help. I will also sew up a few winter pj bottoms etc - they will be needed in the next few months. (Note - Pip is constantly updating her blog with other requests - so make sure you go and check it out)

And to think that Nth Queensland resembles a river! Sad really isn't it - Wish we could bottle some up and send it down.

Back in Wild and Windy Land!

I have disappeared up to QLD again for the funeral of my dear Pop.

I will be back to crafting and blogging sometime before 2010!

Our return has been delayed as Baden had a visit to the hospital and has a middle ear infection and it was advised that we do not fly home as the flight may burst his ear drum - something that I would rather not put him through or have to experience!

I may get out of here! There are about 5 low's that are being watched and lots of rain around. Until then

Kylie

Sorry about that.

I sort of up and left you.

Where does one start after a two month break from blogging?

We have been busy. I am now home after an extended trip to QLD to visit family. We spent Christmas with my family this year and were lucky enough to have Tim with us for a few days over the festive season.
Lots of time was spent between my Uncle and Pop - both of which are unwell and nearing their last days with us. As hard as it was to leave, I had a wonderful husband at home that was missing the kids and I, and I had to get some form of routine back.

I have alot more photos to share with you, but you will have to be patient and wait as I have left my card reader somewhere and will have to replace it.

Here are a few photos of some Christmas gifts I made this year.
Seasonally inappropriate Bed Socks for my Mum

Library bag for Connor

Twirling skirt for our niece.

In other news. Baden turned one on the 25thof January (more on that later) and Amelia starts 3 year old kinder next week, to say that she is excited is an understatement.

I also crocheted up some food orders prior to Christmas (have some photos of those to - but you will just have to wait)

A skirt for me

With all of the things that seem to happen at this time of year and all of the places that you tend to go, I thought that I really needed to have something nice for me to wear!I have been seeing lots of skirts getting around blogs of recent weeks and when I saw this on Ethel loves Fred and I thought perfect. I have actually had the pattern sitting in a box for maybe 12 months now because I thought that it would look to full on my small frame. Claire was kind enough to let me know what she did to make it look not so full - Thanks Claire.

My grandmother sent this material down last time Mum and Dad came to visit and I really wanted to show her that I do actually make something with what she sends me. So what do you think? I dont think that I would have actually chosen the fabric had I seen it on the bolt - but it looks nice made up.

And I am pleased that some how (out of pure luck) I managed not to have a big blue flower right on my behind! (opps and you can see the petty coat in that photo - but only because of the angle (I was doing self portraits again)And I will add this one in - cause I like the clouds. I have not worn a shirt tucked in for so many years - but as I was walking through Myers the other day I saw that all of the models had theres tucked in - so it must be the fashion - right?

Getting into the Christmas Spirit!

Ahh the first of December yesterday - where oh where has this year gone. In a blink of an eye it is that time of year again - And I am so not ready.

Last year I made an Advent Tree for Amelia and I was all organised for the 1st of December. This year I keep on thinking that December starts on the 11th of December after the kids and I fly up to Queensland and have stopped off in Canberra to catch the Wiggles in concert.

I am seeing some lovely advent calenders around blogland. Go and checkout this and this. But I am really leaning towards this idea that I have seen over at Pea Soup. Why have I never thought to do this at home. We do it every year as part of the church services in the lead up to Christmas and I think that Amelia would get alot out of it - so I am going to be super organised next year.

So, I thought that I had better do something Christmassy with Amelia (considering that I am not going to put the Christmas tree up this year as we will not be home to enjoy it) I saw these the other day and it took me back to doing them as a child with my Nan's old Womens Weekly' s. So with Amelia's help (I folded the page and she scored it) we made these!
