This week I am grateful for friends.
I am very lucky to have landed some lovely friends in my life. Being that I am not your usual friend. How many people would you make friends with, knowing that they were going to pack their house up and move to another state a year or two later?
I have friends that I am still in contact with from school and friends that I know that I have not made the effort and phoned or written to in a while (really should get onto that shouldn't I)
There are friends that have come into my life through the moving and ones that I have met and struck up a friendship with over this blog and met in real life once arriving and unpacking at a destination.
It took me a long time to feel settled in here. Steph is beyond lovely and am hoping that she will be a life long friend even after we leave.
There are those that don't want to be my friend when I tell them what my husband does. I don't blame them - why make a friend, when you know that it is only for a short time and not a long time.
What has helped alot this year is the Mum's at school. They are all so lovely and friendly. I have struck up a real friendship with one Mum from school and she made me a cuppa the other day.
She made me a heart in my coffee - If you pop over for a coffee, please don't expect me to be able to pull this off, it was a once in a lifetime cuppa.

I can't imagine how challenging all that moving around would be. I'm hoping one of the next moves is closer to here, not sure if I could manage heart coffee but my Farmer boy is pretty talented in that department.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt's a tricky thing opening your heart to new people when you move around but usually the quality people float to the top pretty quickly.

I agree with Kate, it must be so hard to be constantly moving a relocating. Feel free to move to the Gold Coast next. I would gladly be your friend. Although you are only in Brisbane so you are already close enough to be friends.
ReplyDeleteisn't that a sweet little coffee heart?! Lovely that you have made a friend
ReplyDeleteIt must be tough, moving about so much, thankfully, the internet now allows you to take a few of your friends with you everywhere you go. And if you pick up a few friends in each new place they can always jump on board and follow you via your blog. Come to Margaret River and we can meet for a coffee - though i can't promise a little tiny heart in the top!

What a lovely honest post. We have done a lot of moving with my husband's work and I really relate to all that you are saying, except that I see 2 years as a long time - for a while there we changed every six months and sometimes every three!! Sometimes you can literally see people back away if they know you'll only be a short term friend :( But then there are those (like your school Mum's) who really don't mind at all and sometimes they have a transient life too and they "get it" and you find a buddy just when you needed one and you become friends for life no matter where you live!
ReplyDeleteI totally know where you are coming from Kylie, Not that my hubby is in the services, but we have moved to 3 different states in 5 years with another state move imminent. I find it really hard too, especially with this last move to Adelaide, I really didn't really want to come to Adelaide and therefore have always been looking forward to the next move, and not wanting to make great connections because I didn't want people to feel disappointed in me after they had put the time and effort into our friendship. Paul has an interview on monday for the next move and there are a couple of people here that I haven't told yet, because I don't want to disappoint - even though they knew we were never going to be here permanently and I am sure that Stella's little school friends aren't going to be able to understand. It is tough, but if ever we are in the same place I would love to be your friend!
ReplyDeleteThat's so gorgeous. It says a lot about you as a person that you noticed that sweet little heart in there. x
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous little heart! At my place you only get instant coffee...definitely no hearts (but I'll take you up the street and see what the barista on the corner can do!)
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't see what's so bad about making a friend you know will only be around for a couple of years. Goodness, nothing in life is a certainty, and every relationship is valuable to your life in some way. So glad blogging is a constant no matter where you are :-)
xxxCate
I am glad that I became your friend during your last posting. You are a wonderful friend that I love and I would be missing out on a lot had I not have met you.
ReplyDeleteThose that make the effort will be frinds for a long time I am sure.
You are obviously a great friend and deserve to have lovely people in your life! That little love heart speaks volumes. x
ReplyDeleteHey gorgeous girl, very happy to be able to count myself among your friends. We do have a particular lifestyle, i know the last 6-12 months in any location, you start to drift away in body & mind, preparing to move & start afresh, again!! I'm a bit jumpy as we've been here for 3+ years, it's . . . strange. I LOVE making new friends, blogs are a nice constant but my favourites are the school mums. They are just on the same page as you, every 3p.m. is my adult contact time & collecting the children, a big jolt of love & attention. Love Posie
ReplyDeleteFriends are amazing. I love online frienships because it means my friends are with me on my phone all the time, just a few taps of the screen away, no matter how separated by distance.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful coffee... almost too precious to drink it. Friends are always something to be grateful for, whether they are life-long or just passing by. What would we be without them?
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine why anyone would not want to be friends with you Kyles, you're lovely!
ReplyDeleteWell done on getting the heart in your coffee, that's a bit special.
Yay for the internet and blogs!! :)
I always find the second year in location you start to make some really close friends - the first year is all about finding your feet, only to have to move and start all over again. We are up for posting again this year and I have just started to feel really settled - ah, the army life:)
ReplyDeleteTa very muchly gorgeous gal! I'm so thrilled to have found such a lovely new friend who will no doubt be one for life. That coffee really is the sweetest thing! What is Friday like for you? Can't promise a love heart but I'll bring cake...or you can come here? Hope all is lovely in your world :) x x
